Well, I have heard the buzz through all the local channels. Everywhere I turn, I hear the same murmuring. “Are we going to war?”
The simple answer is… maybe. I can’t fully see where this is going. Part of the reason I can’t see where we are going is because we are coming up on the elections. We have been in a war for over ten years now. If we go into Iran now, whoever agrees to send our troops in will greatly reduce their chance of gaining the White House. I don’t think any of the candidates are ready for that. I sincerely doubt President Obama would give the go ahead for many reasons.
On the other hand, Iran has been pushing for war for several months now. They have threatened to attack any of our warships that enters the Gulf of Oman. Here is where some of the rumors start to fly. From what I’ve heard, they have equipped small boats with explosives, much like the one used on the attack of the U.S.S. Cole in October, 2000. It has also been rumored that we have sent 9000 troops into Israel to help finish building their anti missile network.
Why would it take that many troops to do that?
The only reason for a troop buildup of that size is to help shore up against any attack that might come. So, I do think we are preparing for the inevitability. With the tensions building between Israel, Iran and the U.S. anything is entirely possible.
The big question I find myself asking is what does all this mean for us? What is the potential threat here?
Should we go to war, we will not only be going against just Iran. We will have the added problem of dealing their allies, primarily Russia, China and Venezuela. This could quickly escalate into another world war. With the state of the global economy, there could be dangerous and devastating consequences on top of the war. There is also the threat of nuclear escalation.
So, I don’t know what the future holds with Iran. I do know, eventually, we are going to have to face this problem. The only thing left to wonder is when?
